Death Note: Live action ver. Vs. Animated ver.

Are you obsessed of animations. Well, if you are, then you should never miss this one, Death Note. This animation is a series of about 40  episodes with a very good animated effects, scripts and soundtracks. I must say this one is really wonderful, that I have to give my thumb-up for it.

Death Note, a story about a 18-year-old  bored student who was really tired of the world that was full of unjust, crimes and bad people. He tried to make himself the God of a new world without crime and bad people with the power of the Death Note.

One day Light Yagami accidentally picked up a book with the title “Death Note”. He brought it back home and knew that it was not a normal notebook but a book of Shinigami (Grim Reaper). There were instructions on the cover-back side page  of the book saying that “people whose name is written in this book shall die”. With the Death Note, Light started seeking just by punishing criminals by writing their name in the book. Hundred of criminals were reported to be dead of heart attack

This serial killer was later named as Kira (Killer) by people. Some people supported Kira of his action in punishing bad people. So that they could live in a world without crime. Some people said that the action of Kira was not acceptable. Criminals should be punished by the laws and Kira was just an immature killer.

This bizarre serial killing case was then investigated by L, the world famous, secretive and number one investigator. Without knowing each other identity, Light and L started a psychic war wittily and smartly.

This animated gains a huge sucess from all around the world. It was shown in the US and some countries in Europe. Viewers are really impressed with its story line and smartly, strategically perpetual investigations and psychic war of Light and L.

Because of it huge sucess, two live action movies (LAM) were also made, and they seem to be quite sucessful in the domestic theatre. I my opinion, I find the animated films are a lot better than the live action ones in several points, casting and scripts.

Light Yagami and L.

First to mention is casts. The casting of Light Yagami in the live action movies just disappoints me. Light is a character who is seen as handsome,  intelligent, smart, calm, and thoughtful just with a glance look. However, Light in the LAM, to me, looks so different. His look couldn’t convince me with those characteristics.  Besides, his performance just makes him look so silly somehow. In the LAM, Light holds the Death Note in the public and even writes the name down while he is watching a live news about a criminal from a public television. Though it was dark, but what the hell would a thoughtful do, don’t you be afraid of being attracted because you are holding a book with a big title “Death Note” in your hand? I wouldn’t do that because someone could accidentally touch it in that crowded place like that.

Another clumsy character in the LAM is Misa. She is supposed to be a young beautiful but lively movie star, but in LAM her look is just too mature to act as a younglively and annoying girl.
However they made a good choice with L. He looks really convincing to me and his performance is quite good in the LAM though he looks too passive in some scenes.

Another point is with scripts. I like the scripts from the animation than the LAM. They are well written hidden with sense of humor and intelligence. I know it is really difficult to compress everything from a dozen-hour series into a four movies.  So they have to cut off a lot of things, that make what is lacked in the movies.

I’m a big fan of the anime, and the manga is worth checking out too (not just because that’s where everything started and it’s more accurate, but also because the art is TO DIE FOR – excuse the pun). I think the choice for L was a great one, and Matsuyama-sensei seemed to be him in every respect – especially in the spinoff LAM, “L, Change the World” (my fave by far). I’ve watched the first LAM, and it’s ok…it was funny in a few parts, and it was kinda dark and all, but the inaccuracy spoilt it – and yes, the pulling out of the Death Note in a public place, too!
I haven’t seen Last Name, but will in the future despite what the first movie was like – I hear it’s somewhat better. Still, I’m looking foward to the US LAM, and will watch it all, even if it’s Zac Efron – I’m not his fan, but I still think he’d do a great job. I hear Joseph Gordon Levitt is in it, and their are rumours of him playing L, but when I first saw him, I thought, “Matsuda is here!”
Before I go, let me say: I don’t mind who will get cast (as long as Light is fanciable) but PLEASE MAKE AIZAWA AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN!!!!!

    SEE YA, KuraiSeken.

Oh, and just a quick note: for those of you who are going to walk out of the cinema if Zac Efron is Light, let me tell you:

Your plan makes no sense because: a) If Zac
was in it, and you hate him so much, you would’ve found out he was in the movie BEFORE you went to the cinema from finding out the cast list – like you do – and religiously looking out for the trailers.
    b) What is the point? All you are showing to others is that you REALLY know how to waste your money, and that you REALLY know how to go off and have a BF. Just because it’s Zac, doesn’t mean it will be the end of the world. You never know: Zac becoming Light might make him less accosiated with HSM, and therefore OK to like publically.
    c) I’m not a fan, but he is not a bad actor, you could do a lot worse than him. Besides, the one I’m worried about is the Miley Cyrus as Misa deal: yeah, she’s spunky and immature (not like Erika Toda at all) but I can’t help seeing her now and shuddering – she’s the ultimate turn-off.
    d) And finally, if you exit the cinema at the beginning of the showing, what difference will it make? You’ve already paid, so the francise already has your money, and that money will already be going towards the merchandise and funding for the next movie. All you are doing is showing displeasure and wasting money.

Instead, why don’t you do what SENSIBLE people do, and watch the movie all the wasy through, regardless of the cast, go home in a disciplined manner, and whine and moan or whatever about it on your numerous social networking sites, and get shouted at by your parents for running up the phone bill moaning about it to your mates. If you are wondering: This is the method I will follow.

    SEE YA, KuraiSeken

A show of hands for who thinks Tatsuya Fujiwara-sensei looks hawt with the red highlights and longish hair that makes him look synonymous with all those parts in the anime where Light glows red and gets red/pink-eye (>O<)M

I thought the LAM was ok, the actor for L done a good job and looked the part, Kira however just didn’t seem the same compared the manga/anime I appreciate its hard to find real people who look like drawn counterparts but as far as his mentality went Kira was pretty close just the look was off, there was some plot twists and changes to the story I didn’t expect like the way Naomi Misora got killed off but that didn’t distract me to much from the plot just I am more used to the Anime’s plot, Misa was okay-ish she did look quite cute and had that innocent like appearance the anime portrayed but still there was something abit off with her and I am not sure what, in simple Deathnote LAM’s are good if your a fan of the series or just want a quick fix of good vs evil wits battling.
